SELECT PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

PRESIDENT, PETER LATTEY ARCHITECTURE

Peter Lattey Architecture currently focuses on Expert witness or Forensic Architecture in the fields of building design and construction and on quality review of construction documents. Recently we have provided inspections and opinions on:

  • residential construction defects in a new home on behalf of the owner,
  • a contract dispute between the general contractor and subcontractors on a major project
  • quality reviews of construction documents for numerous school buildings
  • source of water intrusion into a residence on behalf of an insurance company

Senior Contract Administration Architect, AECOM, Los Angeles

Took over management of a $50M construction project that was losing money for AECOM. The contract documents were in poor shape and construction was about to begin. I completed construction contract administration through the construction phase below the fee budget and saved fees of $60K on final documentation alone. Construction costs were $15M below budget and the client was very happy.
AECOM had acquired a number of firms throughout North America. As a result, there was no comprehensive system of contract administration across all offices. I co-wrote a standard, operations manual for use by over 100 North American offices.
Managed construction contract administration on a high profile, $330 M, civic project with a challenging client and a highly litigious general contractor. In addition, I took a lead role in the risk management of the project. The project was completed on time and without a claim or lawsuit.

Senior Program Manager, JGM Architects, Los Angeles

Provided design management for the $2.2B Los Angeles Community College Bond Program. I oversaw the quality, cost and timeliness of design services provided by all the consultant teams for the nine campuses. I was responsible for obtaining the best design and documentation for the program within the budget. I developed district wide initiatives in waste recycling and Educational Computer kiosks.

Technical Project Manager, Bovis Lend Lease, Los Angeles, CA

Managed preconstruction services for a $300M Los Angeles Fire Bond construction program. I was responsible for all technical, LEED and program aspects of the construction documents for 21 new fire stations. I refined the architectural program for all stations. I ensured that the stations were designed to consistent, cost effective, high, standards. I performed feasibility and comparison analysis’ of various developmental options.

Executive Architect, HKS Architects, Los Angeles, CA

Managed the construction contract administration for five 60,000 to 80,000 sq. ft. commercial buildings in greater Los Angeles. I provided technical expertise and coaching to the junior staff on several other large commercial projects.

Senior Architect, Law Crandall, Los Angeles, CA

Completed Property Condition Surveys of portfolios of properties to support their purchase by major real estate investment groups. I surveyed a major office campus and a portfolio of 20 retail properties in the greater Los Angeles area.

Managing Partner, Chislett, Lattey, Manson Architecture & Engineering, Courtenay, BC, Canada

Provided management expertise of a startup Architecture/ Engineering firm which grew to a staff of 15 in 3 years. It became the largest A/E firm in the area. I managed all aspects of the operation including coordination of teams of consultants. I balanced the requirements of numerous concurrent projects with limited resources in a profitable manner.

Project Design Manager, Thiess Contractors Ltd., Brisbane, Australia

Managed the design team for a design-build, 250 cell prison in Queensland. Managed the project scheduling and value management team. By substituting alternative construction methods and materials the team under my management, we reduced construction time by several months and reduced construction costs by 6% ($1.5M) below budget.
